This week’s Musing Mondays from Should Be Reading asks…
“Do you read books while you…
…eat? … bathe?… watch movies or tv?… listen to music?… While you’re on the computer?”
I never eat while I read. It’s too distracting. If I try to do both then the end result would be that I’d become engrossed in the story, forget to chew and will in all probability choke on my food.
I never read while I bathe. I’m afraid I’d get the book wet. The horror!
I do sometimes read while watching a movie or TV. If the movie had reached a point where I’m not that interested but want to go on watching anyway just to find out what happens in the end, I read. Same with the TV shows I watch. For example, crime based shows like CSI, Law & Order: SVU, Bones or Dexter. I like the crime parts but not all of the personal stuff (romance, kids; etc.). Sometimes, I put the TV on mute and read until the show gets back on track.
I usually don’t listen to music while I read.
I read while I’m on the computer only if I’m downloading something. I get impatient pretty fast and need to do something to distract myself. What better way to do that than to get lost in a book?
I wouldn’t ever risk getting a book wet!

Oh yes! Not only do I never risk them getting wet I also never dog-ear my books, protect them with dust covers and often wonder what I’d do in case there’s ever a house-fire! And believe me, I’m not the only one to wonder about the house fire thing. My love for my books is so legendary that several people close to me have pondered over the same question! 😉
LOL, I love it how you ignore the personal stuff in shows.
Here’s mine:

Just as I avoid romance in books (especially those gushy, unrealistic ones), I also avoid romance in my TV shows. I love a good mystery, detective or a crime based show. I often feel there’s really no need to show the personal lives of the characters. Now, in something like Dexter, I get showing Dexter’s personal side because of his hidden ‘serial killer’ life. But I’m not really interested to know who his sister is seeing. I just don’t care! On the plus side, such digressions give me some time to read while I put the TV on mute!
P.S. Tried commenting on your blog but couldn’t (with my WordPress account). I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve never had this problem before. 😦
