Yes Chevalier has a way with words but not the whole book is like that. There are patches of some very simple, straight, frill free writing as well.

I had heard a lot of good things about Girl with a Pearl Earring too. It had generated a lot of buzz when it first came out especially after the movie released.
I loved that book! Our bookclub read it and had a fun discussion 🙂
