This week’s Booking Through Thursday asks:
“E-readers like the Kindle and iPad are sweeping the nation … do you have one? Do you like it? Do you find it changes your reading/buying habits? If you don’t have one, do you plan to?”
I don’t have an e-reader. Before I use to say that I don’t need one either. But now that I am spending so much time commuting to and fro for my work, I am thinking that I want one. Carrying a book around especially if it’s heavy gets difficult at times. An e-reader can solve that problem.
Now that the eReaders have broken the $100 barrier (the cheapest I know of is the $79 Kindle), I can see more people taking the plunge. It’s a really useful thing to have if you travel a lot since it weighs next to nothing really.
Yes, I guess the price of e-readers going down may also contribute to more people getting them. But the weight issue for me trumps the price one, now that I spend so much time commuting. 🙂
I think travel is the one major advantage e-readers have over real books. Given my preference for real books, it’s a good thing I don’t travel much.
My BTT post is here if you’d like a look 🙂
Yes if I didn’t have to run around this much I would much rather sit tight with a real book than an e-book. 🙂
I completely agree, especially if you like switching between different books but don’t want to carry them all. Or, if you finish the book you have with you and then nothing else to read!
Oh yes finishing the book I am reading and finding myself without another book to read is my biggest fear!
Nice answer 🙂

Thanks! 🙂
I still prefer the actual book.

Me too. Where else would I get that new book smell that I love so much?
I have to admit, I still love reading “real” books, but I love the Nook for traveling!! It’s just so dang convenient!
Here’s my BTT.
I love the feel of a real book. The smell, the way the pages feel but you’re right e-readers seem more convenient.
E-readers can be great for travel! So small and compact, and you can carry around more than one book at a time without breaking your back! heres my answer – http://eatupmyfreetime.wordpress.com/2011/11/10/e-volution/
That’s true. E-readers can be lifesavers while travelling.
i know what you mean! the strap on my purse is breaking because i’ve been carrying this big hardback copy of abook for over a month now.

You’ve said it! A while ago I was carrying around Trollope’s Barchester Towers for my Chunkster Challenge and doing so was indeed a ‘challenge’!
You’re right…the e-reader is easier for travel. Especially if the physical books you’re reading are hefty ones.
I probably still wouldn’t have one, though, if not for last Christmas.

Oh yes that’s true. Example, my edition of Bleak House. I want to read it so badly but just the thought of lugging around a 1000+ page tome is enough to dissuade me!
