Today’s sentence comes from Spinning-Wheel Stories by Louisa May Alcott.
“When the bustle was all over, Abby found herself a heroine in her small circle of admiring friends and neighbors, who praised and petted her as if she had saved the city from destruction.”
Sorry you were disappointed. I don’t usually read story collections, but the quote sounds ‘up-beat’ and positive, which is a good thing to counteract stories with depressing content.
I on the other hand love reading story collections. The problem with Spinning-Wheel Stories is that it is actually too ‘up-beat’. I quote from my own review,
“The stories are for the most part very sugary. I am very fond of old classics but even I think that these stories are old fashioned.”
Spinning-Wheel Stories has not aged well. That was basically my problem with this collection.
I hadn’t heard of this collection before. it’s a shame that it was a disappointment for you. Here’s my Friday: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/11/friday-memes_18.html
Yes, this Spinning-Wheel Stories one of my ‘Little Known Old Books’ book. I expected it to be more entertaining than this.
Sadly, Little Women is all I have read by her.
Spinning-Wheel Stories is all I have read by her. Can you believe I haven’t read Little Women?
Oh, wow! I haven’t read this collection, but it sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! But as I have mentioned in my review Spinning-Wheel Stories was an okay book for me. I was mostly disappointed by it.
