This week’s Musing Mondays from Should Be Reading asks…
“This week’s musing asks…
Have you ever found a book out of the blue, read it, and then had it be surprisingly good — one that stuck with you for years? If so, what book was it?“
I usually never pick up a book I know nothing about. Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland was one of the exceptions. I found it while idly browsing the shelves of a second hand book store. As I read the blurb I felt that it probably wasn’t my kind of book but something made me want to try it anyway.
Once I started reading the book I couldn’t stop. The language was elegant and the story was really interesting. I tried to slow down but even with deliberate interruptions I ended up finishing it off in a day and a half. It was such a pleasant surprise!
love a find like that…
Yeah me too! 🙂
I sometimes pick up books I’ve never heard of, but most of the time I read about them on blogs. Yours sounds like a great book!
Yes I always like to know about a book, from a blog or wherever, before reading it because I wouldn’t like to waste my time reading something I would not care much for. Girl in Hyacinth Blue was a nice exception.
Those kind of surprises are nice. Thanks for sharing.
Yes these kind of surprises are special all the more so because they are so rare. 🙂
I found a book that way once too, just browsing the shelves. It was called Normal Girl, that was on my mind for a long time after I’ve read it but, Here’s my Musing.
Hi! Thanks for dropping by my blog!
Sorry couldn’t comment on your blog as I’m having issues with word verification. Cry, Baby, Cry sounds interesting. I love twisted stories! Thanks for sharing!
It’s almost like you and this book were meant to be together! You don’t usually pick up books you haven’t heard of, the blurb didn’t appeal to you…yet you got it anyway and loved it! I love that!

Yes that’s what it felt like. What’s more the book was in great condition, almost as if it was new, which was an added bonus. 🙂
Love your choice! I haven’t heard of this one before, but it’s definitely now being added to my TBR list. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

Hi! Thanks for dropping by my blog! Girl in Hyacinth Blue was a great find!
Sorry couldn’t comment on your blog as I’m having issues with word verification. Juliet by Anne Fortier sounds like a great piece of historical fiction. Thanks for sharing!
