This Tuesday’s Tune: “Tell Her No” by The Zombies
The Zombies are one of my all time favourite groups. Along with The Beatles they are always on the most played list. The fact that their lead singer Colin Blunstone was so darn cute also helps! Tell Her No is my absolute favourite from them. I think I have listened to it more than any other song in my collection and inevitably each time I hit the repeat button. I love Colin Blunstone’s vocals in this song, especially the part ‘don’t hurt me now’. I can feel the pain and the desperate plea hidden in that line.
Here are two videos for it. The first is from an appearance The Zombies made in a show called Hullabaloo (seriously?) sometime during 1965-1966.
The second one is a video of Phantom Planet playing The Zombies in the show American Dreams. Its behind the scenes footage of Alex Greenwald goofing around the set and then singing Tell Her No. Too bad the Phantom Planet version is not available in its entirety.
Love this! I wish we could have heard the whole Phantom Planet version, too… alas. Thanks very much for sharing!
You’re welcome! Yes it would have been lovely to hear the Phantom Planet version. Too bad it’s not available. Sigh!
I love both versions. But the Phantom Planet version had me completely cracking up because of that “but the other kind.” Loves it!
Here’s Mine
Yeah Alex Greenwald is just wicked! He was perfectly cast as Colin Blunstone, the lead singer of The Zombies! I hope they understood the greatness of the band they were portraying on screen.
I love both of these versions, although I think I prefer the original! Thanks for the introduction to the song! 🙂
You’re welcome! I prefer the original too. Nothing beats Colin Blunstone’s vocals! 🙂
