Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My Teaser:
“But all the little children had come up to the landing outside to look at the phenomenon of Peepy lying on my bed, and our attention was distracted by the constant apparition of noses and fingers in situations of danger between the hinges of the doors. It was impossible to shut the door of either room, for my lock, with no knob to it, looked as if it wanted to be wound up; and though the handle of Ada’s went round and round with the greatest smoothness, it was attended with no effect whatever on the door.”
~ “Bleak House” by Charles Dickens
Wow, I recognized it as Dickens before I saw the title 🙂 Awesome!!!

Thanks! Yes Dickens’ language has a unique quality to it. I know I recognize it as soon as I read it. 🙂
It’s so interesting to see how writing styles have changed over the years. Would someone publish this book today? I’m guessing the answer is “no.” I read this book years ago and enjoyed it. Thanks for posting a teaser from it.
My teaser this week is from The Lie.
You’re welcome! I prefer this kind of language. That explains why I am always reading classics. I’d take a Victorian book over a modern one any day. 🙂
Have read this book and found it very captivating.
