This Tuesday’s Tune: “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day
Wake Me Up When September Ends is my favourite from Green Day’s seminal album American Idiot. 2004 was a year of change for me. Wake Me Up When September Ends really felt like a manifestation of my melancholia. And also the video! I absolutely loved it! For a teen, nothing cuts deeper than a doomed love affair.
Love this song. I had never watched the video though. Very sad.
It’s the video that caught my attention in the first place. After that I started loving the song.
I love this song so very much. I think the lyrics are fantastic, as is the album it came from.
Yup American Idiot is by far the best from Green Day.
This song has a different meaning for me… when I first heard it, I related it to losing my mom during the month of Sept. in 2003. The words, “wake me up when Sept. ends” was so poignant that next year b/c it was the anniversary & I just didn’t want to relive that every Sept. Of course now, almost 9 yrs later I feel differently about it. But this song will always bring me back to that memory.
Oh so sorry to hear about your mom! It’s tough losing someone so close to you. My mom’s brother hates Novembers because that’s the month he lost his mom. 😦
