This week’s Booking Through Thursday asks two questions:
“‘Overall, what factor most influences your choice of your next read?’
and
‘What is it that makes you want to read a book by an author you have never read before?'”
I guess the factor that most influences my choice of next read would be my mood. If I’m feeling down a quick comfort read is what I need. And if I’m feeling particularly energetic then I tackle books that are from genres unfamiliar to me or books of a chunkier variety. Challenges I’m participating in may also influence me.
The thing that makes me want to read a book by an author I have never read before is the genre of the book. If its a Golden Age mystery, a cosy mystery or a classic than I’ll read it even if I’m not familiar with the author.
I admire that you just dare to pick up a book you haven’t heard of yet. Somehow, I’m always scared that it will end of wasting my time. Most of the time I only read books by authors I already know or that have been recommended to me. Books I pick up at random just stand on my bookshelf forever.
For me the genre matters. If I am comfortable with the genre of the book then it doesn’t really matter who the author is.
Ohh I agree, mood does definitely affect what I read! 😮
Here is mine~~ :

Glad to find another ‘moody reader’. 😉
Mood and genre play a big part sometimes.

Yes they do, at least for me. 🙂
I hadn’t thought about mood at all, but the more I think about ti the truer it sounds. It definitely influences my reading tempo! Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome! I’m such a person that I cannot do anything, including reading, without taking my mood into account. So, mood plays an important part in my choice of new reads. 🙂
