R. I. P. VII

The days are getting shorter. I suddenly noticed  this yesterday and got surprised! Autumn is nearly upon us. Where did the time go?

We are nearly nine months into 2012. Once again it’s time for R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril or R. I. P. VII hosted by Carl V at Stainless Steel Droppings, now in its 7th year running. Here’s to many more years of ‘spine-chilling’ fun!

R.I.P. VII officially runs from September 1st through October 31st.

The purpose of the R.I.P. VII  is to enjoy books and movies/television that could be classified as:

Mystery.

Suspense.

Thriller.

Dark Fantasy.

Gothic.

Horror.

Supernatural.

There are several challenge levels at which participants can join in. I have chosen,

Peril the First:

Read four books, any length, that you feel fit (the very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature. It could be King or Conan Doyle, Penny or Poe, Chandler or Collins, Lovecraft or Leroux…or anyone in between.

As always I have no pre-selected list of books. Like in all of my other reading challenges and indeed in my general reading habit, I am going to go with the flow and see where that takes me.

That’s all for now. I hope to enjoy this challenge and finish it in time!

Completed Books: 1. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

2. The Killer Inside Me by Jim Thompson.

3. Ghost Stories of an Antiquary by M. R. James.

4. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

Completion Post: R. I. P. VII – Completion

Challenge Completed: 31st October, 2012.

  1. I too have a general list of what I might read, some are books I’ve been meaning to read anyway and this is the perfect excuse to actually pick them up; but it is no way exhaustive or mean I’ll actually read any of the ones I’ve set out to!

Hope you enjoy whatever you do read!

  2. My list is more of a giant stack; I’ve been picking up books since last year’s challenge ended and setting them aside for this one. Of course, the stack now contains more books than I’ll conceivably read, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

  3. You are a reader after my own heart, as I too love to go with the flow. I like making lists of what I may potentially read, and I’ve already done so in my head, but I never let that stop me from following my whims.

Great to have you joining us again this year. I hope both of our reading whims take us down deliciously creepy roads.

    1. Thanks! I have a very sketchy idea about the books I may read for R.I.P VII but nothing permanent. Following my whims is the general idea!

I am so glad to be able to join R.I.P again! Happy ‘spine chilling’ reading to you too! 🙂
