Today’s sentence comes from Evelina by Fanny Burney.
“She was attended by a French gentleman, whom she introduced by the name of Monsieur Du Bois: Mrs. Mirvan received them both with her usual politeness; but the Captain looked very much displeased; and after a short silence, very sternly said to Madame Duval, ‘Pray who asked you to bring that there spark with you?’ ”
This is on the long TBR list. Who wouldn’t want a French gentleman to accompany them. Oooh-la-la. 🙂
Here’s my Friday Post
I had never even heard of this book until about two weeks ago! Makes me grateful for the internet and also makes me wonder how many more authors are out there about whom I know nothing about. 🙂

LOL!
Sounds very austen-tacious! 😉
Oh you’ve said it! I’m really loving Evelina because it is reminding me of Austen so much!
Yes, “that there spark” is an intriguing description. Thanks for sharing…and here’s MY FRIDAY MEMES POST
You’re welcome!
Love the formal language – what a great put down “that there spark” !!
Oh the character of the captain uses many more put downs! His hatred for anything foreign is funny and alarming at the same time.
