Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My Teaser:
“The truth is, as I stood there in the pulpit, looking down on the three of you, you looked to me like a handsome young family, and my evil old heart rose within me, the old covetise I have mentioned elsewhere came over me, and I felt the way I used to feel when the beauty of other lives was a misery and an offense to me. And I felt as if I were looking back from the grave.”
~ p.160, “Gilead ” by Marilynne Robinson.
Wow, beautiful teaser.
Thanks!
Haven’t heard of the book but it do seem wonderful – hope your book. Here’s mine.
Gilead is a bit heavy at times but overall likable.
I’ve enjoyed this author! I didn’t read Gilead, but read another about the same family…Home, I think.
Loved Housekeeping, too.
Thanks for sharing. Here’s MY TEASER TUESDAY POST
I think more people have read Home than Gilead because the former won the Orange Prize (although Gilead won a Pulitzer). Housekeeping was nominated for a Pulitzer but it didn’t win.
Gilead is about John Ames and his family. Home is about another family, the Boughtons. It takes place at the same time as Gilead. They are like two parts of the same book. 🙂
Great teaser! 🙂

Thanks! Well ‘exciting’ isn’t the word to describe Gilead. It is very staid and placid for the most part. 🙂
This has been on my my TBR forever. One of these days ….
I’m playing today here
I thought I was the only one who hadn’t read Gilead. Nice to have some company! 🙂
Hadn’t heard of this before…but I am intrigued! Thanks for the teaser. Mine is here
You’re welcome! 🙂

Oh believe me the book is far from creepy. The teaser is a bit misleading I guess but death does feature very prominently in Gilead. 🙂
An intriguing teaser! My teaser comes from the latest installment in the Daisy Dalrymple Mystery.
Thanks! I have got to try something from the Daisy Dalrymple Mystery series.
I’ve heard of this book but no nothing about it. Your teaser sure made me interested! Mine this week is funny: Sandy’s Teaser
Yikes! excuse the typo. I meant: I KNOW nothing about it! So sorry.
No big!
My own typos usually leave me feeling mortified even though I know they are no big deal. Low self esteem I guess.
Interesting teaser!

Also like the red border.
Thanks! I tired out several other backgrounds before settling with this one.
I haven’t read this book, but it sounds interesting! Here is my teaser: Mom Reads My Books
I thought I was the only one who hadn’t read Gilead yet. Glad to find others who haven’t read it either.
